About the Name

At one time, the Cawston Ostrich Farm was the most popular tourist destination in South Pasadena. The ostriches are long gone, but you can still see an old ostrich feeder on the north wall of Meridian Iron Works. Go check it out the next time you're at the Farmer's Market or hopping on the Gold Line. Get a hold of me here.

Local Drop-Off Location for Ballots

So the easiest way to vote is to just mail the ballot. Now. Because if the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (in Norwalk) doesn’t have your ballot by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16 … you’re screwed. But, if you’re hell-bent on procrastinating, you can now wait and use the “satellite ballot drop off location” at South Pasadena [...]

Attempted Kidnapping in South Pas

Here’s the release from SPUSD: June 8, 2009 – 12:30 p.m. The following information was received from Chief Dan Watson of the South Pasadena Police Department at 11:30 a.m. today (June 8, 2009). Please distribute this information and encourage your children to walk in groups, to be observant of strangers and their surroundings, and to [...]

Yes on S Way More Organized

Between the grassroots YouTube vids and the shiny website, the Yes on S campaign is making the No on S guys look like a few cranky seniors who want kids to stay off their lawns. The voting guide has arguments for and against, as does the South Pasadena Review, but I haven’t noticed the naysayers [...]

Bike Licensing Law Scrapped … in L.A.

The Los Angeles City Council axed an outdated bicycle-licensing requirement today, after complaints that LAPD officers used it to harass bicyclists. It sounds like a silly law, but if you take a look at the South Pasadena Municipal Code … It shall be unlawful for any person to operate or use, or to cause or [...]

Crime Report 06.03.09

So you wake up in the morning and can’t find your cellphone. Logical conclusion: Someone broke into your home and stole the phone while you slept. Just the phone. The full police report after the jump: Tweet

District Superintendent Resigns

SPUSD Superintendent Brian Bristol wrote his letter of resignation on May 15, and will step down at the end of the month “to follow new personal and professional opportunities.” The move doesn’t come at a great time, as the district is trying to fill budget gaps and pushing the Measure S parcel tax. A note [...]

South Pas Resident Tops Tax List

The state says that John Kwon, who lists an apartment on Huntington as his address, owes them some cash. $7,864,402.73, to be more precise. Oddly, that’s the exact amount owed by a De Won Motors Group in L.A., which means the two share the title for “largest delinquent sales and use tax accounts” in California. [...]

When Can We Start Daytripping Little Tokyo?

Orochon and Mikawaya are almost within our grasp. The Gold Line’s Eastside Extension is still on track to open this summer, but a firm date is up in the air. Curbed LA reports the date is rumored to be around the end of the month. Tweet
