About the Name

At one time, the Cawston Ostrich Farm was the most popular tourist destination in South Pasadena. The ostriches are long gone, but you can still see an old ostrich feeder on the north wall of Meridian Iron Works. Go check it out the next time you're at the Farmer's Market or hopping on the Gold Line. Get a hold of me here.

Out of Office

I’ll be away from the computer for the next couple weeks. Here are a few nuggets to pass the time: The Highland Park Heritage Trust is asking Caltrans to stop all that construction on the 110. The Eclectic Music Festival & Art Walk will have oh-so-hip food trucks. Phew. Maybe it’s just me, but it [...]

Dog Days of Spring

Two things. First, the annual rabies clinic will be from 6-8 p.m. on April 15 at the South Pasadena Fire Station, 817 Mound Ave. It’s a good chance to get your best friend licensed and vaccinated. And it’s pretty reasonable: DHLP+Parvo (5 in 1 shot): $15 Rabies: $12 Lyme: $22 Bordetella: $15 Also, the “Doggy Day [...]

Crime Report 03.31.10

Whoa. A middle school kid is arrested for sexual battery after he touches a classmate’s butt. Full police report after the jump. Tweet

Taking Care of Business

A lot of this is pretty stale, but it’s worth a glance. If you haven’t noticed, South Pas is abuzz with new business. Glimpses of South Pasadena gave a great roundup here, and here’s a few other biz notes of note: First and foremost, Eating L.A. has the scoop on Mix ’n Munch. Two thoughts on [...]

Crime Report 03.24.10

A lot of these entries are written like essays this week. There’s a pretty brazen robbery on Mission. Full police report after the jump. Tweet

South Pas Blogs Goes Dark

This is a bummer. Not that much of a surprise, since the last post was in June, but still … As the datelines of the most recent entries attest, it’s been some time since I’ve posted anything on South Pas Blogs. The demands of life have relegated this website to the back burner for a [...]

Day Tripping Waterman

Mt. Waterman is finally open. They got a ton of snow this year, but the rain and mudslides have kept the roads closed until now. There is a slight catch: You have to take a pretty big detour to get there. But the drive is pretty amazing as you wind your way through the Station [...]

Crime Report 03.18.10

It’s been one of those weeks, but the postings will resume this weekend. So a guy breaks into a car and steals … the seats. There were a couple of break-ins: one at Fanta-Sea and the other at the Chocolate Box. Also, if you ever have your tires slashed, I’m gonna guess you have a [...]

Crime Report 03.10.10

Anyone else notice the crosswalk sting they had set up on Fair Oaks today? The results should be evident in next week’s report. Why would someone think the Orange Grove off-ramp to the 110 would be a prime spot to hawk shirts? And a little good news: koi kidnapping foiled. Full report after the jump. [...]

Pack Station in Quite a Pickle

This has nothing to do with South Pas, but as a giddy new cabin owner I’m sure it won’t be the last time Big Santa Anita Canyon news trickles onto this blog. The Pack Station at Chantry Flat was originally built in 1936, and a general store was added in 1953. Deb and Sue Burgess purchased [...]
