About the Name

At one time, the Cawston Ostrich Farm was the most popular tourist destination in South Pasadena. The ostriches are long gone, but you can still see an old ostrich feeder on the north wall of Meridian Iron Works. Go check it out the next time you're at the Farmer's Market or hopping on the Gold Line. Get a hold of me here.

Crime Report 03.10.10

Anyone else notice the crosswalk sting they had set up on Fair Oaks today? The results should be evident in next week’s report. Why would someone think the Orange Grove off-ramp to the 110 would be a prime spot to hawk shirts? And a little good news: koi kidnapping foiled. Full report after the jump.

Crime Report 03.04.10

Busy week for the SPPD. There was a hot pursuit that ended with the suspect ditching his stolen car at Avenue 58; and there was an armed robbery at Radio Shack. Full police report after the jump.

Crime Report 02.24.10

There’s nothing much wrong with arresting people who drift through town selling phony magazine subscriptions and stuff, but arresting a kid for selling fruit on the corner? That sounds a little mean. Especially when the kid is about 2 feet away from Alhambra city limits. There’s also a report of an assault at SPHS that [...]

Crime Report 02.17.10

Third week in a row that police arrested someone with an out-of-state ID for soliciting without a permit. Full police report after the jump.

Crime Report 02.14.10

Happy Valentine’s Day and all that. I guess my favorite would be the guy who stole a spatula from Bristol Farms, and then sped away in his BMW. Full report after the jump.

Crime Report 02.04.10

This is interesting: There were three arrests for soliciting without a permit last week. One suspect is from Illinois, one is from Arizona, and the third is from Oklahoma. With the influx of grifters, it’s worth posting some tips from the South Pas Police Department:
We continue to see door-to-door solicitors selling newspapers and magazine subscriptions. [...]

Crime Report 01.28.10

Here it is: All the police reports for December and January cobbled together into one massive tome. Get comfy. Be sure to stretch your legs every once in a while. The carjacking arrest made the Pasadena Star-News, tho they failed to mention the armed man was carrying a pellet gun. And if you’re interested, here’s [...]

Crime Report 12.07.09

A refreshingly light week for crime. Even the reported assault is pretty benign. Full police report after the jump.

Crime Report 11.30.09

The big news is, of course, the first homicide in South Pas in three years. The victim has been identified as Noe Martinez-Quinone, 35, of Guatemala. Full police report after the jump.

Crime Report 11.18.09

Lots of dumbass vandalism this past week; there were more home burglaries reported; and the oh-my-god-you-are-so-going-to-hell award goes to whomever stole the handicap placard. Classy. Full police report after the jump.
