eHarmony is moving it’s corporate headquarters from Pasadena to Santa Monica. According to the Star-News, Pasadena tried to get the online dating site to stay, but eHarmony declined. South Pas resident Taylor Gershman writes:

Are you aware that eHarmony is moving its headquarters and 250+ workforce to Santa Monica in November? The reason is some of the executives live in the Santa Monica area. eHarmony also cites a superior tech labor pool in Santa Monica, which is complete baloney. What’s equally concerning is the City of Pasadena leaders shrugged it off citing that eHarmony didn’t provide much tax revenue to the city. What about the 250+ people who are no longer shopping at our stores in S. Pas and Pas? I’m a S. Pas resident and I know several S. Pas residents who work for eHarmony and are affected. This whole thing stinks. The City of Pas is apathetic towards losing a marquee business, we are losing 250+ workers and families in S. Pas are adversely affected.

You know all those lane and exit closures they’ve been having along the Arroyo Seco Parkway? It’s about to get worse. This weekend, Caltrans plans to shut down the 110 from the terminus in Pasadena all the way down to Orange Grove Avenue. Which means everyone who would normally get on at Glenarm or Fair Oaks will be cutting through surface streets to get to what might be a very busy Orange Grove off- and onramp. The good news is the closure ends early Monday. The bad news is there will be many more weekend closures to follow. KPCC has the info.

South Pasadena Police Chief Dan Watson will be honored during a goodbye party from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Barn Burner Texas Barbeque Restaurant, 1000 South Fair Oaks Avenue, Pasadena.

Three things about the story: It doesn’t mention the date (June 30 per the city editor); I think they mean “party” where they say “part”; and I think they might mean “finalists” and not “finalist.” Not great for a story that’s on the site’s front page. Also, to be picky, you don’t have to spell out Avenue if it’s part of a specific address.

*UPDATE: The story has been removed, whatever that means. So I included a screenshot.

*2nd UPDATE: The story is back. And it’s been fixed, fixed, fixed and fixed.

I’m done with the updating, but they reportedly changed the venue.

The death of SPHS student Aydin Salek prompts a bill proposal from Assemblyman Anthony Portantino that would “grant immunity from criminal prosecution to teenagers who seek emergency medical attention for someone possibly suffering from alcohol poisoning.”

State Assemblyman Mike Eng pushes Caltrans to sell all the homes along the aboveground 710 route. It’s an odd about-face from the guy who opposed Portantino’s bill last year, which kinda would of done the same thing.

I’ve been wondering why, out of nowhere, people are flocking to an innocuous post from December 2008 about a stealth bomber flying over Pasadena. My best guess is it’s because they’re looking for this photo, which just won some kind of award. Let me know if you have a better hunch. Press release after the jump.

West Coast Aerial Photography, Inc., today announced that it’s image of the B-2 bomber flying over the 2009 Rose Bowl game has placed second in World Press Photo’s annual contest in the Sports Features category.

The annual World Press Photo Contest “offers an overview of how press photographers tackle their work worldwide and how the press gives us the news, bringing together pictures from all parts of the globe to reflect trends and developments in photojournalism,” explains the World Press Photo Contest website. The two-week judging included 101,960 images by 5,847 photographers, representing 128 different nationalities.

“This is absolutely amazing,” exclaims Mark Holtzman, West Coast Aerial Photography President. “I am honored to have my picture placed with so many other fantastic images. I’m looking forward to attending the awards ceremony in Amsterdam this spring.”

The B-2 Rose Bowl flyover image first debuted in a two-page spread in Sports Illustrated. It was taken at the conclusion of the National Anthem on January 1, 2009, showing the United States Air Force B-2 Stealth Bomber, “The Spirit of Missouri,” based at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, flying over the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, where the University of Southern California Trojans played the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Pasadena Unified School District might try and follow South Pasadena’s lead and push for a parcel tax. The district is facing a $14 million deficit. The question is whether a city as large and diverse as Pasadena can garner the two-thirds votes necessary to pass the tax in a special election.

Speaking of the parcel tax, and not to belabor the point, but the South Pasadena Review has yet to post the results of Measure S on its site.

The South Pasadena Educational Foundation’s Summer School program is bucking the state trend and offering some classes.
