About the Name

At one time, the Cawston Ostrich Farm was the most popular tourist destination in South Pasadena. The ostriches are long gone, but you can still see an old ostrich feeder on the north wall of Meridian Iron Works. Go check it out the next time you're at the Farmer's Market or hopping on the Gold Line. Get a hold of me here.

Catching Up 04.08.09

Where will the Gold Line go next? Metro is holding a series of meetings to discuss the subject. LAist has a list of venues. If you’re curious as to how we could end up dumping thousands of gallons of raw sewage into the ocean, maybe you should consider taking a tour of the city’s deteriorating [...]

Catching Up 03.20.09

An extended stint of jury duty is my excuse for the lapses in posting. It’s incredibly interesting but, after a month, it’ll be nice to get back to a normal schedule. Caltrans to Hold 710 Tunnel Q&A

Sure there’s the economy and the Middle East, but what should Obama really focus on? Completing the Long Beach Freeway. Or at least, that’s the opinion of Joe Mathews. [via LA Observed] Also in 710 news, Assemblyman Anthony Portantino (D-La Cañada Flintridge) has introduced a bill that would force Caltrans to sell about 500 parcels [...]

Big Ol’ Catching Up

A lot of this will be outdated, but … City Water Manager Marcelino Aguilar says of the Wilson Reservoir: “It’s about 100 years old. The life expectancy is supposed to be about 50 years.” Trader Joe’s is suing a New York store that’s decided to reopen as Trader John’s. Drilling began, in a testing phase, [...]

New Edison Transformer Irks Neighbors*

For the past few weeks, Southern California Edison crews have been entering and exiting the Marengo power-line corridor a lot more. Turns out they were building stuff. Without telling the neighboring property owners. And now at least one is asking that Edison move the power lines underground. My guess is it’s the neighbor who suddenly [...]
