About the Name

At one time, the Cawston Ostrich Farm was the most popular tourist destination in South Pasadena. The ostriches are long gone, but you can still see an old ostrich feeder on the north wall of Meridian Iron Works. Go check it out the next time you're at the Farmer's Market or hopping on the Gold Line. Get a hold of me here.

Catching Up 06.24.09

Inside Private Lives extends its run at the Fremont Centre Theatre, which pushes the production past the one-year mark in South Pas. Pasadena Unified School District might try and follow South Pasadena’s lead and push for a parcel tax. The district is facing a $14 million deficit. The question is whether a city as large [...]

Final Words on Measure S

It’s over, the measure passed. The L.A. Times got trigger happy on Tuesday and called the election before all the votes were counted. The South Pasadena Review is still struggling with the Internet, with this headline on the front page of their site: “When They Become Available: Results of Parcel Tax Election Posted on Review [...]

Measure S: It’s a Done Deal

All the walk-in votes have been added to the tally, and Measure S still squeaked by. Here’s how it all shook out: Yes: 67.6% (4,158 votes)    No: 32.4% (1,993 votes) Here’s what it means in a nutshell: If you’re a homeowner in South Pas, you’ll now pay an annual $288 parcel tax for the next [...]

Measure S: Parcel Tax Poised to Pass*

Yes: 67.3%   No: 32.7% The county says results are counted for all 21 precincts, but since 2/3 voter approval is required, I’m gonna wait for them to make it official. 5,934 residents voted, out of 15,112 registered voters. That’s 39%. The estimated cost of the election was $65,000. *Yes on S reports “there are still [...]

Measure S: Today’s the Day

If you forgot to mail in your ballot for Measure S, you can still drop it off today until 8 p.m. I’ll post the results when I get them. Tweet

Local Drop-Off Location for Ballots

So the easiest way to vote is to just mail the ballot. Now. Because if the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (in Norwalk) doesn’t have your ballot by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16 … you’re screwed. But, if you’re hell-bent on procrastinating, you can now wait and use the “satellite ballot drop off location” at South Pasadena [...]

Yes on S Way More Organized

Between the grassroots YouTube vids and the shiny website, the Yes on S campaign is making the No on S guys look like a few cranky seniors who want kids to stay off their lawns. The voting guide has arguments for and against, as does the South Pasadena Review, but I haven’t noticed the naysayers [...]
