About the Name

At one time, the Cawston Ostrich Farm was the most popular tourist destination in South Pasadena. The ostriches are long gone, but you can still see an old ostrich feeder on the north wall of Meridian Iron Works. Go check it out the next time you're at the Farmer's Market or hopping on the Gold Line. Get a hold of me here.

Crime Report 07.21.10

I kind of thought I was alone in dubbing Rick Ordonez, 33, the “kitty-cat tagger.” Guess not. Per the LA Weekly, the guy got sentenced to 90 days in county jail, three years probation, 300 hours of graffiti-removal work and has to fork over $8,675.38. Unrelated, but hot prowls are creepy. Full police report after the [...]

Someone broke into your car and stole your art supplies and your arrows? Bummer. Full report after the jump. Tweet

Crime Report 07.08.10

Slow week for the police report. In other crime news: Via the Star-News: “Police learned Friday that the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office plans to charge (18-year-old Nancy) Diaz with a misdemeanor count of furnishing alcohol to a minor in connection with the Dec. 12, 2009 party, the detective said.” That’s the party where [...]

Crime Report 06.30.10

Not mentioned in here, but I’m a little sad to see police say they nabbed the kitty-cat tagger. The suspect is from Alhambra. In South Pasadena crime, the Saxophone Bandit strikes. Full report after the jump. Tweet

Crime Report 06.23.10

A much calmer week. But, per Mister Earl, here’s what you can probably expect to see mentioned next week: I arrived at TJ’s about 4:15 today just as what seemed like the entire SPPD was also arriving.  They had a teenage girl in handcuffs. Apparently three juveniles snatched one or more purses and ran. At [...]

Crime Report 06.17.10

Two pervy events in one week, and one robbery that’s flat-out scary. Also, I’m curious as to how common it is for someone to make a private person’s arrest. Full police report after the jump. Tweet

Crime Report 06.03.10

Still nothing on the killing of Leeban Hassan Adan, though it should be noted that earlier reports saying the 20-year-old had three kids were erroneous. The Star-News wrote up a blurb on the foiled car burglars. Full police report after the jump. Tweet

Crime Report 05.27.10

It find it strangely heartening that we can have tractor-related crime in South Pasadena. And the ass of the week is whoever stole a motorized wheelchair. Full report after the jump. Tweet

Crime Report 05.20.10

Here’s the whole shebang since April 1. It’s long. Really, really long, and the SPPD would like to pass along this tidbit: We continued to see a rise in auto burglaries.  The suspect(s) have been targeting apartment building parking lots/carports and burglarize multiple cars.  The suspect(s) have also pried pedestrian gates or forced open the [...]
